CHOPIN, Fryderyk (1810-1849). AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT SIGNED of Valse opus 70 no. 1 in G flat major, inscribed and dated Valse par F. Chopin Paris 32 , black ink, 1 page, 42 bars, oblong octavo, 230 x 293mm., (slight fraying and discolouration at edges, rubbing, one bar offset from another sheet), Paris, 8 August 1832 Maurice Brown gives the autograph of this waltz as lost. A second autograph is in the Chateau de Thoiry, which Kobylanska ( op. cit. ) noted as unavailable for inspection. The traditional date of the composition of this waltz has been given as 1835. The present manuscript clearly dates the work to August 1832, just under a year after Chopin arrived in Paris. The waltz was published posthumously by A. M. Schlesinger, Berlin, (no.4396), 1855 and by J. Meissonier fils , Paris, (no.3527), 1856.
