CHURCHILL, Awnsham and John. A Collection of Voyages & Travels, some now first printed from Original Manuscripts, others now first published in English . London, 1744-46. 6 volumes. -- OSBORNE, Thomas. A Collection of Voyages and Travels, Consisting of Authentic Writers in our own Tongue . London: Thomas Osborne, 1745-47. 2 volumes. Together 8 volumes, 2 o (350 x 225 mm). Approximately 300 engraved maps and plates. (Some scattered foxing and offsetting throughout.) Contemporary calf, the spines gilt (rubbed and worn at extremities, some volumes with restoration). Provenance : George Finch (armorial bookplates). Third edition. "This is a very valuable collection, both for its range of coverage and for the fact that it gives the original accounts. The third edition is considered to be the best edition because of its greater inclusion and its copious index. This set contains the rare two volumes, known as the Harleian Voyages , compiled from Lord Oxford's library by Osborne" (Hill). Many of the works in this edition had never before appeared in English.
