CHURCHILL, WINSTON & CLEMENTINE SP Two superb individual signed photographs of Winston and Clementine Churchill. The first is a black and white half-length portrait of Winston in uniform displaying medals, actual image approx.145 x 105mm, clearly signed in black ink on mount "Winston S. Churchill, 1919" and mounted again on Elliott & Fry cardstock. Overall approx. 255 x 170mm. A striking image with a strong signature. A couple of minor scuffs, to the corner and right of Churchill's mouth, but otherwise a very impressive item. Very minor occasional spotting. Sold together with a larger full-length sepia portrait of Clementine by Speaight, sat reading a book in a armchair. Signed boldly underneath the image, "Clementine S. Churchill". Image size approx. 185 x 135mm. Overall size approx. 290 x 215mm. Some wear to corners and slight fraying along top edge. An excellent pairing. Provenance: The vendor reports that "My grandfather, during the Second World War, rented an apartment in the historical centre of Rome to an English woman that suddenly disappeared leaving most of her personal effects in my family's house, including these photos. My grandfather always had the suspicion that the mysterious women was a spy".
