CHURCHILL, Winston S. Autograph letter signed ("W."), TO HIS BROTHER JACK CHURCHILL, 7 November 1914. 1 page, 8vo, Admiralty stationery, autograph envelope WITH FREE FRANK SIGNED ("WSC"). "I KNEW YOU WOULD DISTINGUISH YOURSELVES...I EXPECT IT IS A STIFF EXPERIENCE TO STAND UP FOR A LONG TIME TO THAT SHELL FIRE" Churchill congratulates his brother and his comrades for "their first contact with the enemy" and he is glad it was "so creditable to them.... I expect it is a stiff experience to stand up for a long time to that shell fire." Turning to politics he says "The admiralty only sing one song -- Pump troops in to the Field Army. I have my own troubles; but have no doubt we shall get the better of them..." (2)
