The British Cotton Growing Association was one of the traditionally Tory business groups in Manchester that decided to back Churchill as the Liberal candiate in the 1906 election on the back of his Free Trade ticket. The present work contains speeches Churchill gave in the Commons during debates on the Northern Nigeria Railway Bill, which was intended to facilitate reduction in transport costs to cotton-growing regions of Nigeria.
