In a green, half-morocco slipcase. Provenance : Diana Spencer Churchill, his daughter (1909-1963) (inscription). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED: "For Diana from Papa 1949." A powerful and poignant association of Churchill and his eldest daughter. Twice divorced, Diana suffered from recurring depression and several nervous breakdowns. In 1963 she took her own life by an overdose of barbiturates--one year after having engaged in charity work with the Samaritans, a suicide prevention group.
