These are faintly visible from the front, and have associated, discoloured retouching, and a few pinprick losses. The paint surface is otherwise clean, with a clear varnish. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned retouching and further reveals rather extensive retouching throughout Susannah, the red jacket of the Elder on the right, and the fountain, lower right, as well as further scattered retouching. Despite these, the painting appears bright and ready to hang. It is in overall fair condition. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale. The
