Lot features leather CDV album, 5 x 6.25 in., containing 38 CDVs or CDV-sized tintypes, mostly portraits of men, women, and children, some with backmarks from studios in Toledo, Ohio (Wm. Reiterman) and Adrian, Michigan (J.W. Morris), and some with 2 cent US internal revenue stamps affixed on verso. In addition to some charming family portraits, the album includes a tintype portrait of a young man wearing a tall top hat; a tintype of two men seated in a studio setting - one wearing a unique shirt with anchor design; and an outdoor tintype of two men riding in a horse-drawn cart (housed under paper mat). The album contains at least 7 CDVs of Civil War soldiers dressed in uniform, including a CDV by J.W. Morris of Adrian, Michigan, showing a pair of Union pards - one wearing a kepi, the other wearing a unique cap with insignia that is difficult to discern; and a hand-tinted tintype of two pards relaxing together in a studio setting, smoking cigars. The album features 3 CDVs of identified soldiers, including: carte of William H. Donaldson (autographed on verso). Donaldson enlisted as a private on 9/12/1861 at Detroit, MI, with the Michigan 1st Cavalry, Co. K; transferred into the Veteran Reserve Corps on 9/30/1863; discharged at Washington, DC on 9/8/1864. Carte of Mathew Greenhoe (autographed on verso), who enlisted as a private on 8/6/1861 at Ionia, MI, and mustered into the Michigan 16th Infantry, Co. B on month later; WIA 12/15/1863 at unknown location; discharged on 8/17/1864 at Detroit. Carte of Charles Wilsey (autographed on verso, and credited to Jno. Holyland, Washington, DC), who enlisted as a private on 7/30/1862 at Worcester, NY and mustered into the New York 121st Infantry, Co. I, on 8/23/1862; transferred on 9/30/1863 into the Veteran Reserve Corps; discharge date unknown. A studio view of a young woman that looks to be in uniform (possibly a nurse, but cannot confirm this) is also included in the album, with 2 cent internal revenue stamp on verso and studio credit to S.A. Denison, Toledo, OH. Accompanied by 3 cased images, the first a ninth plate ruby ambrotype of a young man (in poor condition), housed in a thermoplastic case with cameo depicting profile of woman at center of front cover (soiling to cameo and case, some surface wear to case. Ninth plate tintype of attractive young woman accompanied by penciled note identifying the subject as Hattie Galpin (?), "Born 1841 - July 3rd / died June 1868" (image is clear, nicely hand colored, case with surface wear). Sixteenth plate tintype of young man housed in book-style case with paper covers covered in faux tortoise shell design (soiling to tintype, and surface wear to case, especially back cover). Condition: CDVs and tintypes range in condition from fair to very good. Some with scattered spotting/soiling, slight loss to some of the albumen prints, especially at corners/edges. Some tintypes with surface wear/scratches. Album cover with loss to spine, back cover and portion of album pages detached from rest of album.
