Lot of 22 CDVs, of which 10 are identified soldiers, including: Standing portrait of Lieutenant Ward B. Frothingham with A. Sonrel, Boston, MA imprint. Mustered into the 22nd Massachusetts Infantry, Co. D in September 1861; WIA and POW Gaines Mill, VA June 27, 1862; released June 29, 1862; discharged for wounds October 2, 1862; commissioned into 59th MA Infantry in April 1864 and promoted to 2nd lieutenant, then 1st lieutenant; POW Fort Stedman, VA March 25, 1865 and exchanged on April 4. Sergeant Charles H. Lovejoy, 59th New York Volunteers, Co. B, no studio mark. Mustered in August 1861; WIA Spotsylvania Court House May 12, 1864 and died of wounds on May 30, 1864 at Washington, DC. Studio view of soldier with sword, stamped on verso "Geo. P. Lowry, 2d Mass. Cav'y." He served with the Massachusetts 1st Heavy Artillery and 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry. Unmarked studio portrait of soldier with sword, pencil identified as "Solon Johnson, Fort Albany" on verso. This may be the Solon Johnson from Andover, MA, who served with Massachusetts 1st Heavy Artillery, Co. H. "William McKay, Washington, DC, July 14, 1865," credited to Jno. Holyland, Washington. Bendann Brothers, Baltimore, MD, portrait pencil identified on verso as "Judson Poole / forced into the rebel army and died there," although this cannot be confirmed. HDS lists a "Judson Poole" who served with the 7th Iowa Infantry, but no further information is available. Unmarked studio view of "Wiliam Jewell Esq." armed with a rifle and sword. Tintype in paper mount identified as "N.A. Smith V(?)MS 4th Regt., Vt. Vols." wearing a corps badge. Seated view of "Walter Wellish(?) Walpole, NH," credited to H. Ball, Walpole, NH. Studio view of a partially nude subject, presumably a veteran who suffered a wound along his upper thigh, which is shown in the uncredited photograph. Ink identified on verso as "Joseph Brown," with reference to an "incised femur." Accompanied by 12 cartes of unidentified soldiers, including: full standing view of an armed "Commanding Officer 'Co. B' NY Polish brigade," as pencil identified on verso, credit to Josef Krikawa, New York; 3 soldiers from Massachusetts, credited to Boston photographers George W. Clarke, Alexander Perry, and Andrews / Davis & Co.; portrait of Civil War pards by "Mrs. Moore, No. 421 Canal. St." New York; unknown corporal by Clarke, New York; and standing sergeant by Kimball, Concord, NH. The remaining CDVs lack studio imprints. Condition: Range in condition from good to very good. Light to heavy toning. Wounded soldier heavily toned, with some wear to mount. Some with trimmed mounts, or clipped corners.
