Lot of 23 CDVs of Union generals, mostly "from life" photographs, many credited to Boston, MA photographers, as well as some commercially printed cartes. The collection features the following subjects (photographer noted for CDVs including studio imprint): U.S. Grant; George McClellan (2), one by Black, the other by Black & Case, Boston; W.T. Sherman by Mora, New York; Philip Sheridan by Brady, Washington; William Farrar Smith by Joseph Ward, Boston; Francis P. Blair, Jr.; William B. Franklin by Anthony/Brady, New York; Nathaniel Banks (2), one by Charles D. Fredricks & Co., New York; John W. Geary; Erasmus D. Keyes; Gordon Granger by Case & Getchell, Boston; George Stoneman (2) one by Anthony/Brady, the other, a commercially produced view by Elias Dexter; unidentified brigadier general by Hoelke & Benecke, St. Louis, MO; and an unidentified officer with penciled note on verso identifying him to the 7th New Hampshire Infantry, with credit to D.O. Furnald, Manchester, NH. CDVs of lithographs/engravings include: composite view of President Andrew Johnson surrounded by Grant, Sherman, Porter, Thomas, Farragut, and Sheridan captioned "Our Present Peace Commissioners," pub. by Joseph Ward, Boston; Samuel P. Heintzelman pub. by Elias Dexter; Darius Couch pub. by The Metropolitan Photograph Co.; Don Carlos Buell; Quincy A. Gillmore pub. by Joseph Ward; and post-war CDV promoting Grant & Colfax for President and Vice President, pub. by The American News Co., New York. Condition: Two cartes with internal revenue stamps affixed on verso. Several include handstamp of "Henry W. Porter " Range in condition, from good to very good. Light to moderate toning. Some with clipped corners.
