Lot of 5. Includes songsheet "The John Brown Song." Harwich, MA: Cape Cod Republican Press, n.d. This 4.5 x 11" sheet has the words to the famous "John Brown's Body lies mouldering in the grave." PLUS a songsheet on yellow paper "Drainsville Fight, By Bun-ion." N.p., n.d. This approx. 6 x 10" sheet has a woodcut of a US flag at the top, blanks for addressee at top, camp, company and Regt. at bottom. This copy is to "Eliza Mathewson," from "Camp Pierport, Co. B, 12th Regt. P.R.C." The song is "Respectfully Dedicated to Ord's Fighting Brigade," and makes reference to "Brave Pennsylvania Boys." There was a D.N. Mathewson in Co. B of the 41st PA Inf. who was serving 20 Dec 1861, when the battle took place. This was Ord's first action in the war, although he had been in service for over 20 years, mostly in Florida and the west. Drainsville (Dranesville) was also one of the few victories for McClelland's troops in the Northern Virginia Campaign in the fall and early winter of 1861. J.E.B. Stuart's troops ultimately prevailed. PLUS illustrated lithographed sheet music by Augustus Clapp, "Jim Crow Jubilee: (Part 1: History Ob De World.)" Boston: G.P. Reed, 1847. 6 pp., 10 x 13.5", disbound from larger volume of music. PLUS handbill announcing the 24th National Anti-Slavery Bazaar. N.d. (circa 1860). Printed on letter sheet folded to 5.25 x 8.25". Lists many objects to be sold, bottom has list of organizers. AND an illustrated card, "A Child's Prayer for Missions," with portrait of an African and a missionary at top. 3.5 x 5.25", n.p., n.d. Condition:1st has very light foxing, light dampstain in lower third. 2nd has 1/4 folds with light scuffing along same, very light surface soil. 3rd has minor foxing and light surface soil, esp. in lower right corners where pages were turned. 4th has letter-type folds, minor dampstain mostly affecting back page. 5th has very minor foxing.
