RARE COCKBURN 1908 The second great vintage of the twentieth century (1900 being the first) which was declared by no fewer than 26 shippers and produced what many regard as the greatest ever Cockburn. This wine was produced right in the middle of the golden age for Cockburn, which went from the late 19th century through to the extrordinary 1927 and is surely wine of the great 1908 vintage. Michael Broadbent gives both the wine and the vintage five stars. See his note below the lot description. Cockburn--Vintage 1908 Level: bottom neck; Embossed re-waxed capsule and hand blown glass "Arguably the greatest ever Cockburn. Most recently from an old three-part moulded bottle, level top shoulder. Palish ruddy-hued old tawny; good fruit, touch of mint & liquorice, fully opened out after 40 minutes, sweet, slightly raisiny, glorious and still excellent the next day. Medium sweet, full bodied, very rich, good texture. A very assertive heavyweight, ethereal, cognac-like, fabulous flavour. Great wine. Nov. 1990" GVWB 1 bottles per lot
