Decoratively patterned silk-backed cream boards with pictorial front cover, paper spine label, acetate cover. Limited First Edition, this copy lettered in pencil "2/5"; there were 300 total hardcover copies printed. Inscribed and signed by Paul Bowles in the year of publication: "for Mark Brauer 'Everything goes backwards. It's bad now, and we have to make it still worse of we want to go forwards.' best Paul Bowles, Tangier, 30/x/79." Bowles (1910-1999) lived for many years as an expatriate American in Morocco. This collection represents many of his best works, many of which had been long out of print or unavailable, presented here for the first time as an entity. Miller A35c.
