Title: Collection of approximately 63 photographs of Palestine and the Middle East Author: Bartlett, Adelbert Place: Middle East/Santa Monica Publisher: Date: c.1920's Description: Vintage gelatin silver photographs. Approximately 8x10 or reverse, with Bartlett's Santa Monica studio rubberstamps on versos, along with pencil captions and descriptions by Bartlett, a few typed slips, etc.; housed in plastic sleeves in a leather notebook. Captivating photographs of the Middle East in this transitional period, as the British and French replaced Ottoman rule, the Jewish population was seeking an independent state, the Arabs were jostling with each other, and the forces of modernism clashed with traditional cultures. Adelbert Bartlett was a commercial photographer based in Santa Monica, California, and the director of the Near East Relief Fund in Los Angeles. Most of his papers, photographs and negatives reside in the Special Collections department at U.C.L.A. Lot Amendments Condition: Very good or better condition. Item number: 204120
