Thursday, April 19, 1906. 4 pp. 57x42 cm. (22½x16½"). * [The San Jose Press Democrat] The Press Democrat. Vol. XXXII, No. 93. April 19, 1906. Santa Rosa. 2 pp. 29x20 cm (11½x7¾"). A few small tape repairs at edges. * The Story of the California. An Authentic Account of the Earthquake of April 18, 1906, and The Great Fire. 78 pp. Illustrated with photographs. 29x17 cm (10¼x6¾") original white printed wrappers. Pacific Monthly Publishing Co., 1906. All housed loosely in a blue morocco-backed cloth, drop-back box, gilt-lettered spine and morocco cover label. Includes the historic The Call-Chronicle-Examiner, published by three intensely competitive newspapers, combined in an effort to publish a newspaper for the people of the stricken city the day following the earthquake. With banner headlines such as, "At Least 500 Are Dead" "Entire City of San Francisco In Danger of Being Annihilated" "Panic-Stricken People Flee" "Loss Is $200,000". Gilt lettering to cover label reads, "Presented to The James S. Copley Library by Capt. E.
