Collection of fragments of musical manuscripts on vellum [tenth to fifteenth century] 9 leaves (including a bifolium): including (a) leaf from a choirbook, 395mm. by 260mm., with a large initial 'I' (opening "In monte oliveti ora ..."), enclosing Christ kneeling in prayer in a rocky landscape before a deep blue sky, 8 lines of text with music on a 4-line stave, Italy, late thirteenth century; (b) leaf from a Breviary, 224mm. by 168mm., with a full-page initial 'P' (opening "Primo dierum omnium ...", for the 1st Sunday after Epiphany), in white vine with an animal mask and foliage, on blue and red grounds, 5 lines of music on 4-line red stave followed by 6 lines of text, Italy, c.1200; (c) 2 fragments from leaves from a monumental Lectionary, each 277mm. by 200mm., both double column, 22 and 18 lines in fine Carolingian hand, simple red initials, second half of the tenth or early eleventh century; plus 2 bifolia from a twelfth-century Italian choirbook with 2 elaborate red initials, each 335mm. by 225mm., a leaf from an early thirteenth-century Lectionary, 355mm. by 230mm., perhaps English or French, and a bifolium from a German fifteenth-century choirbook, 510mm. by 345mm.; all recovered from bindings and hence somewhat defective
