Extensive collection of personal letters and documents belonging to Amnon Ish-Shalom (b. 1925), who served in the Palmach and the Royal British Navy. [1940s]. Ish-Shalom fougt in Gush Etzion with the Jerusalem HISH companies. Ish-Shalom suffered a head injury and was taken as prisoner by the Jordanians upon the Gush Etzion surrender, one day prior to the declaration of the State of Israel. He was discharged from prison on February 22 1949. Later in time Ish-Shalom founded the "Ein Bokek" hotel on the shore of the Dead Sea. Presented here are numerous personal certificates and military documents as well as a collection of letters sent to Ish-Shalom during the 1940s, most of them sent by friends and family, part of the letters were sent during World War II and during the 1948 war, by friends who served in various military forces; letters sent by Ish-Shalom to his family and to his lover Rachel Goldman during the 1940s. Many of the letters were sent during Ish-Shalom's service in the British navy. Various sizes and conditions, general condition - good. About 240 letters (with various markings by the censor); about 30 documents, mostly military; several additional items.
