Collection of photo negatives from Harland and Wolf shipyard -including twenty-six images of the Titanic Author: Place: Belfast Publisher: Harland and Wolf Ltd. Date: [c. 1911-12] Description: 80 photographic film negatives, including 27 images of the RMS Titanic. 10x12.5 cm (4x5"). Each negative presented in small manila envelope, 11.1x13.3 cm (4½x5¼"), bearing the rubber stamp of Harland and Wolf Ltd. of Belfast. Each envelope bears a hand-written B&W photo number and a description of the image. The negatives are likely copy photographs. Twenty-six images of the Titanic include photographs of the construction of the vessel in drydock, the launch, the engine room, and the many amenities aboard ship including the Café Parisienne, the Suite Rooms, the gymnasium, and more. Collection also includes fifty negatives of her sister ship RMS Britannic, two of RMS Olympic, one of Lords Pirrie and Kysland inspecting the Titanic before launch, and one of the 1912 sailing schedule showing Olympic, Titanic and Oceanic. RMS Titanic struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912, only four days into her maiden voyage. Harland & Wolff is a shipyard, specialising in ship repair, conversion, and offshore construction, located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Harland & Wolff is famous for having built the majority of the ocean liners for the White Star Line. Well-known ships built by Harland & Wolff include the Olympic-class trio: RMS Titanic, RMS Olympic and RMS Britannic, the Royal Navy's HMS Belfast, Royal Mail Line's Andes, Shaw Savill's Southern Cross, Union-Castle's RMS Pendennis Castle, and P&O's Canberra.
