Also includes a signed photograph featuring artist David Hockney author Christopher Isherwood, artist Don Bachardy and footballer Juli Veee, signed by all and inscribed to Orphanos and his partner Ralph Sylvester, along with several leaves signed by Christopher Isherwood for the Sylvester & Orphanos printing of Christopher and His Kind. Some notable portraits featured in this collection include actress Clare Bloom and author Philip Roth, author Ray Bradbury, poet Charles Henri Ford with Indra Tamang, author Graham Greene actress Mamie Van Doren, author Gore Vidal, and many others. Stathis Orphanos (1940-2018) was a Greek-American photographer and, along with his partner Ralph Sylvester, founder of the publishing house Sylvester & Orphanos. Orphanos is perhaps best known for his portraiture, which included authors, actors, and artists, as well as several series which examined male grace and form in members of both the American and Greek military.
