Collection of photographs and documents which belonged to Aron Bornsztejn, crew member of the Polish passenger ship SS Polonia which operated a line to Palestine. [1930s]. The Polish passenger ship "Polonia" operated between the years 1930-1938. In 1933 "Polonia" started to transfer passengers from the port of Konstanca (Romania), through Istanbul and Piraeus, to the port of Haifa in Palestine; many of the Fifth Aliyah immigrants from Poland arrived on this ship. The collection includes: * About 70 photographs of Bornsztejn and group photographs of crew members and passengers on "Polonia". Some are stamped with photographer's ink-stamp: "Boleslaw Furmanek fotograf s/s Polonia Konstanca Port (Romania)". Some photographs are divided on the to be used as postcards. * Three album leaves with 32 mounted photographs. Some photographs were taken on the deck of a ship and some in Palestine. * Four certificates in the name of Bornsztejn: two certificates (booklets) on behalf of "Polonia", with photographs of Bornsztejn (one certificate states Bornsztejn's occupation as the ship's laundry man); ksiazeczka wojskowa [military notebook]; * Palestinian passport (issued by the Mandate administration); * booklet of "The National union of Seamen, Catering Department". * More photographs which belonged to Bornsztejn. Total of about 120 photographs and four certificates. Size and condition vary.
