In the letter to Alfred Wallis Cruikshank explains his signature marks on designs and etchings as well as those of his brother: "If they were done by me you will find my name upon them in the corner or G.C.--or G.Ck... I had a brother...Isaac Robert...and he signed himself I.R. Cruikshank; but of late years he dropped the I and simply put R. Cruikshank..." In other lettters, he discusses a brother's serious illness; asks for an album; makes arrangements for a meeting; and sends condolences on the death of Mr. Bradbury's father. The artist's sketches are two of a gentleman, from the shoulders up, one with brown ink; on the verso of the sheet are drawings of two Roman soldiers, a man writing with a quill pen, and a profile of a bearded man. On another sheet, below a grocery list, Cruikshank has drawn the heads of an old lady wearing a hat and a young gentleman in profile. On a third sheet is a drawing of a young man's head, handcolored in light brown and pale pink. Lot Amendments Condition: Condition varies; the sketches are cut from larger sheets; one of the letters with seal cut away affecting address; some staining; overall about very good.
