Five tickets and paper items which belonged to a passenger on TSS Kedmah which sailed from Genoa port to Haifa on 18.9.1947. English, Hebrew and French. "Kedmah" was the name of the first passenger ship owned by "Zim" navigation company. It was purchased in August 1947 in partnership with the British Harris and Dixon Company and transported passengers and immigrants to Palestine under a British flag. The collection includes: 1. Letter dated 4.9.1947, typewritten on official letterhead of the Marsantours travel agency, informing the addressee, Arnold Spaer, that a ticket was booked for him (English). Attached to one corner of the of the letter is a two-sided printed leaf: on one side appears the ship's itinerary and on the other side appears a list of ticket prices (Italian). 2. First class ticket, printed and filled in by hand, in the name of Spaer. 3. Piece of paper bearing an ink stamp "Transito, Napoli scalo marittimo" [transit, port of Napoli] as well as TSS Kedmah's ink stamp and Spaer's name, written by hand. 4. Shore Leave Pass, for officers and crew members (Hebrew, blank). On the appears the ship's ink stamp and a hand-signature, Spaer's name and the date 29.9.1947. 5. Dinner menu from 5.10.1947. Folding marks, slight stains and creases. Handwritten inscriptions in color pencil on the margins of each item. A 5-cm. long tear to the leaf attached to the letter. See items 37, 58 and 275.
