COLONIAL AUTOGRAPHS, SIGNERS, ETC.]. MORRIS, ROBERT, Chief Justice of New Jersey. Autograph manuscript (unsigned) a draft of a Memorial "to the Honorable the Legislative Council and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey," from "Constituents and electors of the said Council," n.p., n.d. [1780 or slightly later], 8 pages, folio, edges untrimmed , a detailed petition regarding the depreciation of the Continental currency and its deleterious effects on New Jersey's citizenry, protesting that after a long, expensive session the legislature has adjourned "without having transacted much public business" and suggesting measures to lighten the burden of "high and unjust" taxes, complaining that the official rate for state currency, continental dollars and "hard" dollars is faulty, etc. -- LEE, RICHARD HENRY, Signer (Virginia). Letter signed to the Governor of Delaware, New York, 21 January 1785, 2 pages, 4to , a fine letter remarking on publication of "some late communications" from the U.S. ministers in Paris, which revealed "the precarious state of our public credit abroad" and proves "incontestably the necessity of immediate, vigorous measures for supplying the Treasury...that justice may be punctually done to those excellent friends who assisted us in the day of our distress"; noting "the close connection that exists between national safety and national faith..." -- LIVINGSTONE, PHILIP, Signer (New York) . Autograph letter signed to "dear Brother," Albany, 25 March 1742, 1 page, folio , reporting news from Europe and the Caribbean that "the fleet lay all ready for sailing on some Secret Expedition which was supposed to be Cartagena...so that some thing extraordinary is expected..."; and commenting that "I much fear a french war because this country will be exceedingly expos'd to the small parties of French Indians on ye frontiers..." -- HOPKINS, STEPHEN, Signer (Rhode Island) .
