COLOR PLATE] "Quiz." [COMBE,WILLIAM, attrib.]. The Grand Master or Adventures of Qui Hi in Hindostan. A Hudibrastic poem in eight cantos . London: printed by Thomas Tegg [but likely published by Ackermann, see Martin Hardie and Prideaux on this subject], 1816. Lacking the cancel leaf C8 (as usual); the text was rewritten to prevent a hiatus. 19th century brown calf. 9 7/8 x 6 1/8 inches (25 x 15 cm); folding frontispiece, hand-colored title and 26 other fine colored aquatints. Neatly rebacked, the folding plate backed, some toning etc. but a large copy, apparently entirely untrimmed. The rare errata slip is present. One of the classic works of caricature, purportedly by Combe, though Abbey adds a question mark to the attribution. The contents are a ferocious satire on the person and practices of Lord Moira, Marquess of Hastings, who was the Governor General of India. Abbey Travel 437; Tooley 412. C
