The present map is not listed by Giddens in The Beginnings of the Petroleum Industry . The first such record he lists is F.W. Beer's Atlas of the Oil Region of Pennsylvania , also published in 1865. No copies of Colton's maps of the oil districts have appeared at auction in at least thirty years, according to ABPC. Phillips America , pp. 630 and 1067.
