Title: Columbia Marches On: 1934-1935 Author: Place: [New York] Publisher: [Columbia Pictures Corp.] Date: [1934] Description: Unpaginated. Illustrated in color throughout from photographs, drawings, paintings, posters, etc.; color pictorial title-page and colophon-page designed by Arthur Szyk. 35.5x28 cm. (14x10¾"), gold foil boards illustrated on front cover by Arthur Szyk, cloth spine. First Edition. Rare Columbia Pictures promotional book in the uncommon gold foil boards issue,, particularly significant for the early publication of the work of Arthur Szyk in the United States, at a time when he was still living and working primarily in France. It is also a marvelous look at the motion picture industry in the early 1930s, with double-page spreads devoted to each of the numerous motion pictures released or to be released by Columbia, as well as to individual stars. OCLC/WorldCat lists only five copies, at the National Library of Poland, the Danish National Library, and Columbia University, Yale University, and the University of Arizona. The listing for the copy in Poland correctly identifies Szyk as the artist for the cover, title-page and colophon, but the entry for the three copies in the United States erroneously lists the artist as Boris Artzybasheff The Danish copy makes no mention. Lot Amendments Condition: A little rubbing to board edges, a few scratches to rear cover; very good or better. Item number: 254406
