Pagine VIII, 389, [1]. Esemplare in buono stato di conservazione, usuali fioriture, qualche piccola macchia di inchiostro, mancanza all'angolo inferiore esterno della carta L2. Legatura in mezza pelle nocciola, piatti ricoperti da carta marmorizzata, dorso decorato da ferri impressi a secco e ferri dorati, titolo impresso in oro. Prima edizione dell'opera considerata il testamento filosofico non solo del suo Autore, ma dell'Illuminismo stesso, redatta dal grande pensatore politico e filosofo francese Condorcet. Esquisse significa abbozzo, e la scelta di questo titolo conferma la volontà dell'Autore di tornare sull'argomento, ma purtroppo - al periodo di clandestinità trascorso nel nascondiglio offertogli da Madame Vernet, dove la presente opera fu redatta - seguirono l'arresto e la tragica morte, probabilmente volontaria, del geniale rivoluzionario: "in linea generale il testo risente, ed è umanamente comprensibile, dello stato di clandestinità in cui Condorcet si trovava con preoccupazioni gravi per se stesso e addirittura ossessiva per la famiglia. [...] I punti e virgola si susseguono numerosissimi e, sovente, la lettura richiede una rilettura per potersi riallacciare al soggetto. Con molta probabilità questi elenchi spesso molto lunghi valevano, per Condorcet, come annotazioni per maggiori sviluppi da dare in futuro o, addirittura, come titoli di parti per quell'opera maggiore che aveva in mente" (M.
