A witty letter: "Four times have I been at your door...and as often have I turned away disappointed...Recollect my dear fellow, that 'sighing and grief,' have, as Falstaff says, 'blown me up like a bladder.' And what a trial it is to ascend the Parnassus of Washington Square..." He concludes: "I am luckily in the upper region of this house, and shall have my revenge. Come over and see me." -- MORSE, SAMUEL F.B. Autograph letter signed ("Sam. F.B. Morse") to Mary Pattison, "Pokeepsie," 26 May 1853. 1 page, 4to . Fine. Morse accepts an invitation, but declines on behalf of his wife as "her infant compels her to deny herself and to ask you to excuse her. She unites with me in congratulations." Together 2 items .
