Copia de una lettera venuta dal campo d'Africa che narra dal principio infino ala uenuta di Dragut & sua rotta . [Rome: A. Blado, 1550]. 8° (164 x 117mm). 4 leaves. Large woodcut on title-page depicting a part of the coastline of North Africa with the cities of Calibi, Maometa, Susa, Monaster, Africa (Tripoli) and Sfaches, on the verso large woodcut arms of Charles V, fine woodcut initial at the begining of the text. Polished calf gilt by F. Bedford (slightly rubbed). Provenance : Henry Huth (small gilt oval bookplate); Giuseppe Martini bookseller (pencilled signature). An apparently UNIQUE COPY of this little newsletter containing an account of the African expedition of Andrea Doria and Juan de Vega, the viceroy of Sicily, against the pirate chief Dragut who had taken possession of Tripoli and of the first defeat that they inflicted on him. Dragut was to remain a thorn in the Christian flesh for another fifteen years until his death at the siege of Malta.
