CRICKET AUTOGRAPHS, PRE-1914 -- An autograph album, 8° (7¾ x 4in; 19.5 x 12.5cm), filled with approximately 292 autographs on 27 leaves, all but one blank on verso, 15 leaves signed largely in pen, 13 in pencil, some identified by County or as Gentlemen v. Players teams, and with a further 12 autographs of the Warwickshire team loosely-inserted on M.C.C. headed paper. Bound in limp black morocco with gilt ruling (covers slightly bowed). Provenance : 'Edward Stanley -- County Cricket' (ownership inscription, dated July 1907, on front free endpaper). A FINE COLLECTION OF OVER 300 PRE-WAR AUTOGRAPHS. Although the 1907 ownership inscription almost certainly marks the date when the album was started, a number of signatures seem to have been obtained after cricketers had retired. J.B. Hide of Sussex, for example, retired in 1893. Others were only just embarking on their career. The signatures, some of which occur more than once, include: A.C. Maclaren, Ranjitsinhji, A.H. Hornby, R.H. Spooner and 6 others on a single sheet (mounted); A.O. Jones, J. Iremonger, E.H.D. Sewell, J.T. Hearne, G.G. Hearne, P. Mead, E. Hendren and 8 others on a sheet (small segment torn from blank margin); George Gunn, John Gunn, F. Geeson, W. Rhodes, Jessie B. Hide and 5 others on a sheet; G. Thompson of Northants and 9 Yorkshire players, David Denton, B.B. Wilson, S. Haighe, A Dolphin, W.E. Bates, G.H. Hirst, M.W. Booth, E. Oldroyd, and A. Drake, on a sheet; W. Mead of Essex, J.W. Hearne of Middlesex, and E. Humphreys, F.E. Woolley, A. Fielder, J. Seymour, H.T.W. Hardinge, C. Blythe, and Alec Hearne, all of Kent, on one sheet; A.H. Hornby, R.H. Spooner, F.R.R. Brooke, J. Sharp Harry Dean, W. Tyldesley, H. Makepeace, R. Whitehead, G.E. Tyldesley, J.T. Tyldesley, W. Huddleton, L. Cook, all Lancashire, on one sheet; Ranjitsinhji of Nawanagar, two autographs on the page together with C.B. Fry; plus Hants (11 signatures); Kent (11 signatures); Leicestershire (12 signatures); Northampton (12 signatures); Essex (12 signatures); Worcestershire (11 signatures); Surrey (15 signatures); and, in a team of Gentlemen. C.B. Fry, G.L. Jessop, R.H. Spooner, Ranjitsinhji, A.P. Day, D.W. Carr, H.L. Simms, A.J. Evans F.R. Foster, D.C. Robinson and another, with three other signatures superadded; in a team of Players, W. Rhodes, J.W. Hitch, F.A. Tarrant, A.E. Relf, J.W. Hearne, P. Mead, John Gunn, S.F. Barnes, J.B. Hobbs, and 3 others; the 12 Warwickshire players on the inserted M.C.C notepaper are F.R. Foster, F.G. Stephens, G.W. Stephens, W.C. Hands, C.K. Lanlgey, S.P. Kinneir, C.S.Baker, E.J. Smith F.E. Field, C. Charlesworth, J.H. Parson, and W.G.
