Montague Dawson (British, 1890-1973) is often regarded as one of the greatest painters of maritime subjects of the 20th century. Both his father and grandfather were maritime artists as well. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists. This striking image features a largely gray and gloomy scene, with dramatic strokes of white indicating the turbulent waves. Features a tugboat hauling a clipper ship.
