Hamlen, Printer to Yale College Date: 1850 Description: 7 pp. 9x5¾, original pink saddle-stitched wrappers. First Separate Edition. Exceedingly rare and early scientific study on California gold, which was originally given as a speech by Alger before the Boston Society of Natural History in April, 1850. First published in the American Journal of Science and Arts, Second Series, Vol. X, pp. 101-106; this being the first separately issued appearance. Only one other copy located while researching, which is found in the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) library. Lot Amendments Condition: Mild foxing and soiling, 1" split to top of spine, vertical crease down center to entire booklet; still very good to near fine overall - scarce. Item number: 157643
