CUBA] LUCAS, LEROY. Large group of approximately one hundred twenty-five documentary photographs of various Cuban subjects . [Cuba: circa 1969]. High gloss prints affixed to black cards, protected under paper guards, each with the printed label of "Mahony & Roese" accomplished in manuscript reading "Youngest Revolution", housed in an early case with printed address label as sent to The Dial Press. Images variously sized, cards approximately 9 1/2 x 11 inches (24 x 28 cm). Cards and paper guards lightly worn, various notations, wear to labels on case. A fascinating and visually pleasing group by this noted African-American photographer, most likely published in Elizabeth Sutherland Martínez's The Youngest Revolution; a Personal Report on Cuba (New York: Dial Press, 1969). The photographs here depict elements of 1960s communist Cuba, including an entranced snake charmer, musicians and performers, Fidel Castro as seen in many propoganda images, soldiers, portraits, urban and farm scenes, political rallies, and much more.
