CUBA--SUGAR] Group of documents issued by various government bodies, relating to the cane sugar industry of Cuba . 8 documents over 28 pages, most ink on paper with official stamps etc., one a printed document completed in manuscript, also including a document signed by Don Francisco Serrano the Captain-General of Cuba at the time. Various sizes, the largest 12 x 8 1/2 inches. Some browning and toning, overall in very good condition. The documents relate to a patent granted to one Don Juan Elias Maigrot for a ten-year period, granting him rights of exclusivity until February 1871. The documents include various confirmations of the grant of the patent, the receipt for the fee paid by Maigrot, etc. Sugar was an enormously valuable Cuban export (c.f. the classic Cuban color plate book Los Ingenios.
