[Havana: Spring, 1959.] A cotton machine-sewn National Flag of Cuba, in red white and blue, with an applied white star, and a ?later patch of the arms of Cuba, added near the star. Some light wear, lacking one grommet from the hoist. The White Star signed on one face by six of the leading Cuban revolutionaries, including Fidel and Raul Castro, Che Guevara, Camilo Cienfuegos, Faustino Perez and ?T. Pineida. 840 x 860 mm. (33 x 69 inches); Together with a collection of ephemeral pieces collected by the owner of this flag, comprising; 1. Navarro Luna, Manuel. Los Poemas Mambises. Havana: 1959. 8v0. Half-title inscribed to Cesar Ferrer, signed and dated by "Malur" October 24th 1959. Original wrappers. 2. Six vintage photographs of Che, Fidel and a guerilla group in the mountains, various sizes, some wear and discoloration. 3. 3 leaves from Revolucion February 14th, 1959, 8vo. The upper leaf signed "Che"; together with a single sheet printing of the Canto de Liberacion, by Juan Millas. Provenance:Manual Navarro Luna, Cuban poet. 1894-1966; sold to a Cuban Revolution collector. An exceptional and historic Cuban flag signed by the leading Revolutionaries in the Cuban Revolution, likely signed in Havana for a "Friend of the Revolution" after an official meeting, in the early months of the Revolutionary government. Faustino Perez (1920-1992), was one of the 22 revolutionaries who escaped the attack as the Granma arrived in Southern Cuba, and went up with Fidel and Che to the mountains. A loyal supporter of Castro, he occupied various official posts in government all his life. The 6th name on this flag is ?T.Pineida. Manual Navarro Luna was a much loved Cuban poet, who joined the Cuban communist party in 1930, and wrote his poetry about the heroes of the struggle for Cuban Independence. After the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, even as an older man, he joined the Revolutionary National Militia, and participated in the fight against the bandits in the hills, and in the Battle of Playa Giron.
