Fisher Unwin Date: 1890 Description: [ix], 146 pp. Many illustrations after drawings by Edward A. Kemble. (4to) 10¼x8¼, original brick-red cloth pictorially lettered and decorated in gilt, blue, and black, bevelled edges, all edges gilt. First English Edition. Issued in the fall of 1889, shortly after the first American edition. One long story and thirteen short animal tales told in dialect. Except for his signature or monogram on several illustrations, Kemble receives no credit in this edition. In either the American or English edition, this is a notoriously difficult book to locate in acceptable condition. BAL 7117.
