Wooden daguerreian wall frame with gilt detail, 15.25 x 13.5 in., housing a full plate ambrotype portrait of a family dressed in fine clothing and jewelry, including an elderly woman, two adult women, one adult man, and a young girl. Each woman wears a pair of gloves and at least one hand-tinted accessory. Hand-tinting also appears in carpet details. Printed label adhered to frame verso credits the image to "Jordan & Co., / (Late Bogardus) / Photographic & Daguerrean [sic] / Establishment." Label includes lines for "Name" (presumably of subject/s) and "No." The former is left blank while the latter is filled in with pencil inscription reading "9694[?]." Provenance:Marvin Lieber Collection of Early Photographica Condition: Ambrotype with crackling/flaking to emulsion throughout. Velvet portion of frame extremely worn, with loss throughout (bare fabric mostly remains). Chips, nicks, and cracks to wood and loss to paint and gilt finish in places. Paper on frame verso ripped around label where plate has been removed previously. Original nails appear to have been replaced, however.
