Philadelphia: Humphreys, Bell and Aitken, 1776. 31 pp., 8vo (193 x 120 mm). 8 engraved plates. Modern half speckled calf over marbled paper boards. Condition : one folding plate defective (lacking the upper half of the plate). rare . This extract from a larger work on military tactics was published jointly by Robert Bell, Robert Aitken and James Humphreys and issued separately with another work on military tactics by Thomas Simes. Both works are said to have been used by the Continental Army. The plates depict lines of march and various formations. The imprint is unusual, considering Bell and Aitken were fierce revolutionaries, while Hamilton a Loyalist. Evans 14726; Hildeburn 3351; Sabin 18345.
