Danny Lyon (American, b. 1942) Teenage Girls Arrested for Demonstrating in a Stockade Outside of Leesburg, Georgia, 1963, printed 1996. Signed "Danny Lyon" in pencil on the verso l.r., dated with printer's initials in pencil within a Bleak Beauty stamp in red ink on the verso l.r. Gelatin silver print, image size 8 3/4 x 13 1/16 in. (22.2 x 33.1 cm), matted, unframed. Condition: Minor crease (3/4 in.) in image/sheet u.l. N.B. The self-taught photographer and filmmaker Danny Lyon is a pioneer of socially conscious documentary photography. His earliest work was made in the early 1960s when he was the first staff photographer for the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Images from this project were published in 1964 in The Movement: Document of a Struggle for Equality, a book on the southern civil rights movement.
