Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882) The Annunciation inscribed 'My Beloved is mine & I am his - he feedeth among the lilies.' Overmounted along lower edge and with further inscription 'Painted by Dante Gabriel Rossetti for Boyce - 1855' (on the reverse) and inscribed 'My Beloved is mine and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies./hail, thou that art highly favored: blessed art thou among women.' (on the frame). With inscription in the hand of George Price Boyce 'The Annunciation of the Virgin, by Dante Gabriel Rossetti (W. Col r drawing 14 1/8 x 9¾ in.) the original drawing bought in 1855 of the painter by this present owner George P. Boyce of West House. 33 Glebe Place. Chelsea ...' and with a further inscription 'And now belonging to M r s George Boyce of /... /... July 1897' (on an old label attached to the backboard) pencil, watercolour and gum arabic heightened with touches of bodycolour and with scratching out 14½ x 9¾ in. (36.8 x 24.8 cm.)
