Beschreibung:

2 volumes. Extensively illustrated in color. 28x22 cm (11x8¾"), first (1920-21) bound volume in green cloth with magazine cover pasted on front, gilt lettering on front cover and spine; second in printed paper wrappers. Bound out of order with some duplicates, some incomplete, some extra leaves; most after first 12:1 missing at least a few leaves. Das Plakat was the premier magazine of commercial design in Europe and was almost solely responsible for establishing commercial art as a respectable medium of artistic expression. The founder, Hans Josef Sachs, produced Das Plakat as the publication arm of his Vereins der Plakatfreunde (Association of Poster Friends) between 1910-21. The volumes found here represent late issues of the publication, and along with commercial art, are replete with illustrations of political posters and imagery, notably with many posters from the early Soviet Union. Includes issues (bound out of order; ordered as listed): 11:5; 11:6; 12:1; 12:3 (incomplete); 12:2 (incomplete); 11:11; 12:1 (incomplete?); 12:2; 11:7; 12:5. Lot also includes 1916 Sept.-Nov. special issue, "Werbemittel f(ür) Tabakwaren" with color plates of tobacco advertisements.
