Das Plakat was the premier magazine of commercial design in Europe and was almost solely responsible for establishing commercial art as a respectable medium of artistic expression. The founder, Hans Josef Sachs, produced Das Plakat as the publication arm of his Vereins der Plakatfreunde (Association of Poster Friends) between 1910-21. The volumes found here represent late issues of the publication, and along with commercial art, are replete with illustrations of political posters and imagery, notably with many posters from the early Soviet Union.
