Beschreibung:

David Nathanael Friedrich Dietrich (1799-1888) Forstflora. Beschreibung und Abbildung aller fr den Forstmann wichtigeren wildwachsenden Bäume und Sträucher, sowie der ntzlichen und schädlichen Kräuter, Gräser und Sporenpflanzen. Sechste neu bearbeitete Auflage . Revised and edited by Felix von Thmen. Dresden: Wilhelm Baensch, [1887]. 3 volumes, 4° (284 x 198mm). Sectional titles in volume I. 300 hand-coloured copper-engraved plates heightened with gum arabic by A. Hanemann and F. Kirchner, mounted on guards. (Light spotting and browning, short tears to some guards.) Original pictorial cloth gilt, the upper boards titled in gilt and depicting forest scenes, the spines in compartments, titled in gilt and decorated in black (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance : State School of Applied Arts, Gottwaldov (ink stamps on titles, 5 text leaves, and margins of 11 plates, not affecting image); pressmark labels on title margins. The most complete edition of this interesting study of forest flora. Originally published in Jena by August Schmid in 1828-33 in 23 fascicules with 92 plates, Dietrich's Forstflora first received its full complement of 300 plates in the third edition (Leipzig: Baensch, 1860-1861). The fourth and fifth editions (Leipzig: Baensch, 1863 and Dresden: Baensch, 1880), both appear to be reprints of the third edition, which was revised by von Thmen for the present, most comprehensive edition. Arnold Arboretum, BM(NH) and Nissen call only for preliminary pp.[I]-XIX, followed by pp.[1]-146 in volume I, whilst volume I of the present copy contains preliminary pp.[I]-XIX; 1 leaf sectional title 'Erster Theil'; pp.[1]-202; 1 leaf sectional title 'Zweiter Theil'; pp.[1]-146. Arnold Arboretum p.203; BM(NH) I, p.461; Nissen BBI 487. (3)
