DAVID SMITH RE oil on board - impasto study of a World War I anti-submarine tower, entitled verso `The Nab Tower, The Solent`, signed with initials and dated 1984, 31 x 26cms¦Provenance: private collection Vale of Glamorgan¦Auctioneer`s Note: the artist was the Official Artist on board British Antarctic Survey`s annual relief voyage in 1975. The extensive series of oil paintings which resulted from these voyages was exhibited at the Commonwealth Institute and illustrated Gordon Elliott Fogg`s book The Explorations of Antarctica (1990)¦In the early 1980s, the BAS commissioned Smith to record the lighthouses of England and Wales as many of the remaining active stations were being automated¦Presentation & Condition: no problems with painting other than two very small scuffs / losses to corners, probably from framing, fabric mount and frame, frame has scratches and losses
