Two parts in one, 8 o (236 x 154 mm). Near-contemporary green half morocco, marbled paper sides, t.e.g., others uncut. Provenance : Henry C. Nattah (signature); J.R. Abbey (bookplate). Fine paper copy of the two-part sale catalogue of the library of John Dent, banker and Member of Parliament, whom Quaritch, in 1895, described as "a truly royal collector, who knew what was good to have, and who spared no pains or expense to have it" (Quaritch, pt. VI, p. 7). It contained, De Ricci says, "numerous volumes of the greatest beauty, several illuminated manuscripts...the 1462 Bible, and a number of other books printed on vellum, such as the 1469 Livy (£262.10.0 to Payne)." There was also a complete Caxton (Higden's Polychonicon , £103.19.0 to Archer), and three incomplete Caxtons, several Shakespeare quartos and the three Folios. The sale realized £15,040.19.0.
