Diamond Creek, Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Rock Terrace 1986 (4 bts) [Multiple Vineyard Listing] Diamond Creek, Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Rock Terrace 1986 (4 bts) 1 heavily damp stained and torn label, 1 damp stained and 1 nicked labels Diamond Creek, Cabernet Sauvignon, Volcanic Hill 1986 (4 bts) 3 heavily damp stained and 2 partially torn labels Diamond Creek, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gravelly Meadow 1986 (4 bts) u. 2bn, 1vts, 1 heavily damp stained and torn label, 2 stained labels Lot 356 12 bts (sc) per lot: USD 800-1100 When, in 1968, the late Al Brounstein bought 70 acres of land on Diamond Mountain, in the northern Mayacamas Range of Napa, he noticed three distinctly different soil types as well as a diversity of exposure to the sun. There is also a tiny area round the Lake which, in some years, is made separately as Lake. A thumbnail sketch of each vineyard gives an idea of the scale of things. Red Rock Terrace, 7 acres with reddish-brown soil. Gravelly Meadow, 5 acres with gravel, sand soil and a cooler climate. Volcanic Hill, 8 acres of south-facing hillside vineyard with white volcanic ash. Lake, a 3/4 acre vineyard with gravel, sand soil and the coolest microclimate- usually blended into Gravelly Meadow, except in outstanding years. Production lies between 2500 and 3500 cases a year, one reason for Diamond Creek's comparatively rare appearance at auction - another reason is that perhaps wine lovers actually drink the stuff! One can see why. Serena Sutcliffe, MW Quantity: 1
