Original deep red cloth, blind-stamped on covers, gilt lettering on spine, modern quarter morocco box (some stains, a scuff mark on front cover, joints cracked and splitting, extremities lightly rubbed). FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, FIRST ISSUE, with page 213 numbered '113'. The novel was published in book form on November 21, 1859. With a tipped in advertisement half-leaf and the list of illustrations bound at end. SCARCE IN THE ORIGINAL CLOTH. Eckel, p. 90; Smith I, 13; Yale/Gimbel A143.
