Bulwer Lytton's Not So Bad as We Seem was directed by Dickens and he played the role of Lord Wilmot, "a young man at the head of the mode more than a century ago." Douglas Jerrold, John Forster, Mark Lemon, F.W. Topham, Charles Knight and Wilkie Collins also performed in the play and are listed in the dramatis personae on this playbill. This was the first work performed by the Guild of Literature and Art (see lot 146 for the dedication copy of Bleak House inscribed to Mark Lemon, and a further note on the Fund). Yale/Gimbel H802.
