Diehl Ch., “Constantinople”, Paris 1924. First edition, in 4o, 27x19cm, contemporary paperboards, interior clean, complete 172p.with 115 illustrations of monuments in the text. A fine copy. Charles Dielh, a leading Byzantinist, after the detailed description and publication of Thessaloniki’s Byzantine monuments (see lot….) had arrived in 1920 in Constantinople. Political events did not allow him to finish his scientific researches, and he finally left with the allied forces in late 1922. This is his travel account in Constantinople during those years. He describes the Byzantine remaining monuments, the fine Byzantine Churches, as well as, at the end, several Ottoman monuments in the city, illustrated with more than 100 photos. A fine description of Constantinople monuments by a specialist in Byzantine art. RARE.
