A Descriptive Catalogue of Recent Shells.... London: John & Arthur Arch, 1817. 2 vols. 8vo (210 x 132 mm). 19th century green morocco gilt, spines gilt in 6 compartments, edges gilt. Light shelfwear, scattered foxing. Provenance: Joseph Neeld [British MP, 1789-1856] (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. Welsh naturalist Dillwyn was a porcelain manufacturer and Member of Parliament, who was elected to the Royal Society in 1804 for his work on conchology and botany. His collection of shells, the "small cabinet of shells" mentioned in the preface to this work, is now part of the collection of the Zoological Museum in Copenhagen.
