19th century. England. The upper case with a row of simulated leather-bound books, the centermost, a concealed document drawer. The hinged lid opening on lopers. The interior fitted with an arrangement of two rows of shaped drawers with open center, above a pair of two aligned drawers over two short drawers centering a scalloped apron. The case on cabriole legs with shell-carved knees terminating in pad feet. The walnut case with Burr walnut veneers and crossbanding on the top, lid, and drawerfronts. Brasses are period replacements. Very good condition with original polished surface and mellow patina.
